A Week of Big Smiles, New Friends & Brave Steps

February Half Term was full of energy and excitement as young carers jumped into three days of adventure—climbing, solving escape‑room mysteries, and taking to the ice. The week brought together brilliant young people who arrived with courage, curiosity and the biggest smiles, ready to make new memories.

The adventure began with climbing, where many young carers pushed themselves to try something new. One young person shared how “excited” they felt because it was their first time climbing, while another said they had “the best time” despite feeling nervous to begin with. By the end of the session, everyone was buzzing with pride—proof of just how brave they had been.

That confidence carried into the Escape Rooms, where teamwork and quick thinking created a brilliant atmosphere. Young carers spoke about how much they enjoyed being with others who understood their experiences, with one saying it made them feel “really happy… to see my friends again and connect with people who can relate.”

The week wrapped up on the ice, where young carers embraced the rink with the same positivity and determination they had shown all week. Some were a little nervous at first, but that didn’t stop the fun.

Across all three days, one thing stood out—this wasn’t just a break from routine; it was an opportunity for young carers to explore, grow, connect and simply enjoy being themselves. Their words, their courage and their laughter made the entire week unforgettable.

Young Carers Action Day

Mark your calendars for Wednesday 11th March! This year’s theme, “Fair Futures for Young Carers,” highlights the need to ensure young carers have the same opportunities as their peers to learn, grow and thrive.

We’ve asked young carers in Swindon to share their thoughts on what a fair future means to them.

Keep an eye on our social media as we’ll be releasing a special video featuring their voices.
