Young Carers Action Day 2026: Fair Futures for Young Carers

Today is Young Carers Action Day and at Swindon Carers Together we’re proud to be part of this important national event led by Carers Trust.

Each year, Young Carers Action Day raises awareness of the incredible children and young people who take on caring responsibilities at home—often balancing school, friendships and daily life with significant levels of responsibility. This year’s theme, “Fair Futures for Young Carers,” is all about making sure every young carer has the same chances to learn, grow and thrive as their peers.

Why this day matters

Research from Carers Trust shows that young carers often face challenges that impact every part of their lives—from mental and physical health, to finances, to education and future employment. Many young carers miss out on opportunities simply because they are not recognised or supported early enough.

Here in Swindon, we see every day just how much strength, compassion and resilience our young carers show. But we also know they need support, understanding and opportunities to help them reach their full potential.
