Meet the Team: Tanya, Carer Support Practitioner
At Swindon Carers Together, every member of our team plays an important role in supporting unpaid carers across Swindon. This month, we're introducing Tanya, one of our dedicated Carer Support Practitioners, who provides advice, guidance, and a listening ear to carers when they need it most.
A Passion for Supporting Carers
Tanya joined what was then Swindon Carers Centre in 2018, bringing with her an impressive 27 years of experience working in mental health services.
Throughout her career, she saw first-hand the vital role unpaid carers play in supporting loved ones living with mental health conditions.
“Seeing the impact that caring had on family members supporting someone with a mental health condition made me want to work more closely with carers. I wanted the opportunity to make a positive difference by ensuring they felt heard, understood, and supported."
Today, Tanya continues to use her extensive experience to help carers navigate their own caring journeys, offering practical support alongside compassion and understanding.
Supporting People Every Day
As a Carer Support Practitioner, no two days are ever the same. Tanya works alongside unpaid carers to understand their individual circumstances, helping them access information, services, and emotional support that can make a real difference to their lives.
Whether it's listening to someone's concerns, helping them find the right support, or simply reminding them that they don't have to face caring alone, Tanya is passionate about making every interaction meaningful.
Making a Positive Difference
For Tanya, the most rewarding part of her role is seeing the impact that support can have.
“The most enjoyable part of my role is knowing that we really are making those positive impacts I hoped for. Seeing carers feel listened to, supported, and less alone makes everything worthwhile."
Championing Inclusion
Alongside her role supporting unpaid carers, Tanya is proud to be an accredited LGBTQ+ Ally.
"Being an LGBTQ+ Ally is something I'm incredibly proud of. Creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and able to be themselves is a cause that's very close to my heart."
Tanya, along with everyone at Swindon Carers Together, believes that every carer deserves to access support without fear of judgement. Together, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where all carers feel respected, valued, and able to access the support they need.
With her wealth of experience, compassionate approach, and commitment to inclusion, Tanya continues to make a meaningful difference to the lives of unpaid carers across Swindon.
