Help Build a Better Future for Carers in Swindon
It’s Carers Week, an annual campaign dedicated to recognising the contribution of unpaid carers and raising awareness of the challenges they face.
To mark the week, Swindon Carers Together is inviting unpaid carers from across Swindon and the surrounding areas to attend one of two important engagement events taking place on Wednesday 10th June at the Leonardo Hotel, Swindon.
The events will provide carers with an opportunity to share their experiences, speak openly about the realities of caring, and help shape the future Carers Strategy for Swindon.
This year’s Carers Week theme, “Building carer friendly communities”, highlights the importance of ensuring carers feel recognised, supported, and heard. Swindon Carers Together hopes the engagement sessions will bring together carers and professionals from a wide range of backgrounds to collaboratively build a stronger future for carers locally.
Clare Deards, Corporate Director of People at Swindon Borough Council, said:
“Unpaid carers make an invaluable contribution to families, communities, and services across Swindon, often providing support day in and day out alongside many other responsibilities.
“Carers Week is an important opportunity not only to recognise that contribution, but also to listen to and learn from the experiences of carers themselves.
“These engagement events are an opportunity for carers to help shape the future of support in Swindon, ensuring services continue to reflect the needs, challenges, and realities of caring.
“I would encourage anyone who provides unpaid care to come along and have their voice heard.”
Carers’ voices are central to the development of the new strategy. Without the lived experience, insight and knowledge of unpaid carers, it would be impossible to fully understand and address the challenges carers face every day.
